Hope for Mobile Home Owners!
The State Rebuild and Retain Grant now also covers mobile homes that were moved or destroyed in the Flood of 2011!
Funds can now be used by mobile home owners whose home was damaged in the flood or while being moved to avoid the flood. Funds can be used for moving, skirting, or hook-up. If the home was completely destroyed by the flood then the homeowner is eligible for funds to purchase either a stick home, modular home or mobile home.
To qualify mobile home owners need to be income eligible and plan to remain in Ward County for at least the next two years. The application and income guidelines are listed at the end of this section or on the Souris Valley United Way Web site at www.svunitedway.com.
The Rebuild and Retain grant also includes those who are planning to rebuild and move back into their homes (to include stick homes, modular homes and mobile homes) and remain in that home for the next two years.
The Souris Valley Long Term Recovery Committee is currently receiving applications from Ward County flood survivors through the Rebuild and Retain Grant provided by the State of North Dakota.
Applicants may also stop by the Souris Valley Long Term Recovery office to pick up an application. The SVLTR office is housed in the Souris Valley United Way office at the Wells Fargo Bank downtown, 15 2nd Ave. SW Suite 102, Minot.
Rebuild and Retain Funding Available to Flooded Homeowners
Updated on April 25, 2012 - Flood-impacted homeowners with a higher income level will now be eligible for assistance through the Housing Rehabilitation and Retention Grant. Connie Philipenko of the Souris Valley Long Term Recovery Committee said that Ward County grant applicants can now use a higher gross income level to determine eligibility for funds.
"We're very pleased that the state was able to recognize our need to change the income level requirement to better serve more families and individuals still rebuilding from last year's flood," said Philipenko.
The chart below details the income levels, based on household size, now eligible to receive funds. With homeowners now being able to use a higher 2011 gross income level as a measuring stick for eligibility, Philipenko hopes that more individuals will take the opportunity to fill out the application form and take advantage of the grant funds.
The Souris Valley Long Term Recovery Committee with assistance from Ward County received $3.5 million from the North Dakota Adjutant General's office for the Housing Rehabilitation and Citizen Retention Grant. Homeowners in Ward County affected by the 2011 flood who are planning to rebuild their home and move back can apply for funds from this State grant. Funds will be dispersed to assist rebuilding only the main floor of each residence. These funds are not available to those that are planning to sell or rent their property.
There are 3 categories where grant recipients can use the funding:
1. Homeowners who have rebuilt or are in the process of rebuilding may receive reimbursements for material and labor used to rebuild the main floor of the home. Once determined to be eligible homeowners will be asked to submit original receipts that have not been reimbursed under any other funding program.
2. Homeowners who are in the process of rebuilding or will be rebuilding the main floor of their home in the future may receive funds to purchase building materials at any direct vendor.
3. Homeowners deemed to be eligible for volunteer labor to rebuild the main floor of their home may receive building materials through the Recovery Warehouse and volunteer labor through Hope Village.
